Re: Samuel Leonard Diaries
It was a pleasure speaking with you today; and as we discussed, I am following up with a written confirmation of our conversation regarding the sale or donation to the Massachusetts Historical Society of the diaries of Samuel Leonard.
I am a direct descendant of Samuel Leonard, who was born in 1750 in Taunton, Massachusetts. He resided at the “Leonard House” in Hopewell, Massachusetts, graduated from Yale in 1773, and married Mary Burroughs in 1777. Their daughter, Mary Burroughs Leonard, married my ancestor, Thomas Bush, in 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. I inherited Samuel Leonard’s diaries, which cover the mid-1770’s through the early 1800’s and contain newspaper clippings of that era in addition to daily notes.
Unfortunately, on August 5, 2000, I made the mistake of lending these diaries to Isabella Jancourtz a/k/a Isabel Jancourtz a/k/a Isabella Bush a/k/a Isabel Bush. She resides with my brother, Samuel Dacre Bush, IV, in Weston, Massachusetts, and refuses to return the diaries to me, despite my many attempts to get them back, claiming that I gave them to her and my brother as a gift. Her allegation is untrue. I own these diaries.
Any attempt on the part of Isabella Jancourtz a/k/a Isabel Jancourtz a/k/a Isabella Bush a/k/a Isabel Bush and/or my brother, Samuel Dacre Bush, IV to either donate or sell the diaries of Samuel Leonard to the Massachusetts Historical Society should be denied, since I am the sole owner of them.
